Looking Forward to Plastic Surgery The Meeting

Attending the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) conference? Stop by booth 1737. Dr. Andrew Rosenthal will be available at the booth on Saturday and Sunday so come by and say hello, bring questions and concerns, improvement ideas & more.

If you are attending the Practice Management Re-Boot Camp 2.0, also come by and see us at that pre-conference!

As the Medical Director for Plastic Surgery at Modernizing Medicine as well as plastic surgery practice owner in Boca Raton and Boynton Beach, Florida, I always look forward to Plastic Surgery: The Meeting.

I wasn’t always such a fan of electronic health records (EHR). I had been using paper to document patient records for over 10 years. We tried to implement a server-based EHR system. However, I realized that I was driving an Oldsmobile in a Tesla world. My patients expected me to be cutting edge, and changes in insurance reimbursement and governmental regulation were making paper records untenable. I knew that cloud-based EHR and practice management systems were necessities in this new era of healthcare.

Eventually, I found EMA™. It had everything I could want in an EHR system. I became so involved in the details and became such a fan, I was offered to join the Modernizing Medicine team as its Medical Director for Plastic Surgery. I would help to engineer the product and use it in my practice; it couldn’t get any better than that. By using the modmed Plastic Surgery™ suite in my practice, I knew I had specialty-specific solutions designed BY A PLASTIC SURGEON to address the clinical, financial and operational aspects of my practice.

So why am I attending “The Meeting” this year?

  1. The Location. You know what they say, “Location, location, location!” Los Angeles is certainly a great location. Of course, I’ll attend the show as both a practicing plastic surgeon and Modernizing Medicine team member, but it’s always good to know where to eat and what to see whether you’re in a new town or revisiting an old one. Last time I was in LA, it was as a contestant of FOX’s Masterchef! Maybe I’ll stop by one of Gordon Ramsey’s favorite LA restaurants.
  1. Seeing Friends and Colleagues. Conferences are a chance to connect with past classmates and colleagues, old and new. I look forward to seeing those with whom I went through medical school at Tulane, residents and former professors from The University of Michigan, other colleagues I have worked with over the years, or even members from my own community whom I rarely see.
  1. Showcasing Something “Suite.” And by this I mean being able to show the full-functioning modmed Plastic Surgery suite! I had been using EMA for almost two years with a data bridge to another practice management system. As part of the modmed Plastic Surgery suite, Modernizing Medicine’s Practice Management system is an all-in-one solution for scheduling, document management, billing and reporting. It seamlessly integrates with EMA. No data bridge. My office manager, Diana Molina, has been working in plastic surgery for 20 years. She’s been a biller, a medical assistant and an office manger. Of all the systems she has used (about 7), Modernizing Medicine’s Practice Management wins. She shared that the ‘Appointment Flow’ feature allows us to view the patient schedule for the day and see when they checked in, all while working seamlessly between EMA and Practice Management. Also, if there is a day that we are short staffed, I can be in an exam room with the patient and the ‘Appointment Finder’ allows me to schedule their next appointment right on the iPad. This has made our check in/out process faster and smoother. modmed Plastic Surgery has added clarity to our billing, streamlined our documentation and simplified our workflow. We have truly modernized the way we practice.

Electronic Health Record benefits

  1. Bright Young Faces. No, I’m not just talking about my patients. There is a bright future in the field of plastic surgery– residents and fellows who are finishing training are the core. At the ASPS conference, I look forward to the opportunity to meet some of these up-and-coming plastic surgeons. Just as they are part of our future, we want our plastic surgery-specific suite of solutions to be part of their future.

I want to personally invite you to our booth (1737). You’ll find me there on Saturday, Sept. 24 and Sunday, Sept. 25 during the exhibit hours. We will also be at the Practice Management Re-Boot Camp 2.0 pre-conference on Thursday, Sept. 22 and Friday, Sept. 23. Come by and I will show you the benefits of modmed Plastic Surgery. And see why we are the #1 EHR for plastic surgeons according to Black Book!
