It’s that time of year when we honor some of South Florida’s top companies with our Business of the Year Awards.
The honor recognizes the companies and a top business executive that have helped build South Florida’s thriving economy with their sound business practices and key contributions to the community.
Companies like Pompano Beach-based The Spice Lab, which doubled its revenue to more than $20 million in 2016; and Fort Lauderdale-based AutoNation, the first auto retailer to crack the S&P 500 stock market index. Also, influential business leaders who helped shape the region, such as Miami Dade College President Eduardo Padrón.
Few could deny the impact this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award recipient has had in advancing higher education in South Florida. Padrón joins icons – including entrepreneur H. Wayne Huizenga, AutoNation CEO Mike Jackson and Related Group Chairman and CEO Jorge Pérez – selected for the honor.
To mark the awards’ 20th anniversary, our special section also highlights past honorees, such as Miami-based Berger Singerman, which U.S. News & World Report ranked as one of the nation’s Best Law Firms; and Boca Raton’s Modernizing Medicine, a leader in electronic health records software.
We also revisit Fort Lauderdale-based Miller Legg, a winner in 1999 that now has five offices throughout Florida. The consulting firm’s success illustrates how a long-standing commitment to excellence in business can ultimately secure a company’s longevity — and perhaps a Business of the Year award along the way.
Congrats to all the honorees.
