Got iOS 10? It May Be Time for an Update.

ios-compatibility

By now if you have an Apple device chances are you upgraded to iOS 10 when Apple released it in September 2016.

What You Need to Know Now
While we all experience the new features included with each bright and shiny software edition, sometimes unintended consequences pop up. What’s the scoop with Apple’s latest upgrade? In order to run iOS 10, customers may need to update their devices. Why? iOS 10 will not work on iPad 2, iPad 3 and iPad mini 1, and it may not work on others. Click here for a list of Apple’s iOS 10 compatible devices detailed at the bottom of the web page.

What’s the takeaway? Please plan to upgrade to iOS 10. It will be required to run Modernizing Medicine’s 5.3 release scheduled for January 2017. And you won’t want to miss what’s in this release, including advanced MIPS support and Practice Management enhancements around claims management.

The Need for Speed
Another nice benefit of new hardware is the speed and improved performance. Those of you who attended the mobile tips and tricks session at the 2014 users conference saw the speed between the iPad 2 versus iPad Air 2 – our mobile engineers demonstrated that the iPad Air 2 works up to 12 times faster than the iPad 2. Not to mention that the graphics performance difference is up to 180 times faster. There is no comparison, and now is the perfect time to begin to experience the time savings of 15 to 20 seconds per patient when you update your device. Depending on how many patients you see per day, that may add up to saving 1.5 hours per week with the newer systems. In other words, you may make up the cost of the new iPad within a week or two. Mihai Fonoage, PH.D.
Senior Director of Mobile Development

Mihai is the Senior Director of Mobile Development for Modernizing Medicine. In this role he manages, designs and implements electronic health record (EHR) systems on mobile platforms, including both iOS and Android.

Mihai has over 12 years of mobile development experience and has spoken at a number of industry events including as Keynote at the 2016 Making a Difference Scientists Reception hosted by Junior Achievement of the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast. Mihai has been an invaluable part of growing Modernizing Medicine from a once unknown startup to one of Forbes’ Most Promising Companies in 2013 and 2015. Co-founders Dan Cane and Dr. Michael Sherling developed modmed EMA™ as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution, and Mihai’s mobile development expertise helped bring their vision of an iPad-based EHR system to fruition. Mihai’s technical prowess has strongly contributed to Modernizing Medicine’s success, and he was honored by being included among Sun Sentinel’s Top Workplace Professionals in 2015 and is a recipient of the South Florida Business Journal’s 2014 40 Under 40 award.

Mihai has a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Florida Atlantic University. When he was a doctoral candidate, his advisor suggested that Dan meet him. As a result, he became Modernizing Medicine’s first employee and has since risen from Product Development Engineer to his current role.

His work on modmed EMA has resulted in significant achievements. In 2014 the product became the first mobile EHR system and the first iPad application for ambulatory EHR systems to meet the Meaningful Use certification requirements. Mihai also lead the development of Modernizing Medicine’s patent-pending ICD-10 solution on the iPad, which greatly eased the transition for physicians to the new billing and coding standard. Due in large part to Mihai’s efforts building the native iPad applications, Black Book Rankings listed three of Modernizing Medicine’s solutions as the highest ranked ambulatory EHR systems in the dermatology, orthopedics and otolaryngology specialties.
