Debut of Built-in, Effortless ICD-10 Coding in Specialty-specific EMR System
Boca Raton, Florida – March 11, 2014 – Modernizing Medicine, Inc., the creator of the Electronic Medical Assistant® (EMA™), a cloud-based, specialty-specific electronic medical record (EMR) system, announces the general availability of EMA Orthopedics™, built by and for orthopedic surgeons.
EMA Orthopedics covers procedures and plans for all sub-specialties in orthopedic surgery as listed by the AAOS Orthopaedic Surgeon Census. Available as a native iPad application, EMA Orthopedics can be accessed via the Internet virtually anywhere and any time, giving providers the freedom they need to efficiently run their practices.
“Orthopedics is one of the more complicated specialties, and the detail our practicing surgeons have built into EMA Orthopedics makes this a unique solution,” said Dr. Michael Sherling, co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of Modernizing Medicine. “We built EMA Orthopedics with orthopedic injuries in mind by providing users with our EMA Interactive Anatomical Atlas™. The multilayered atlas isn’t simply broken up into bones; it’s broken into fracture patterns based on how each individual bone breaks most often. This sophisticated feature, offering 3D body images and the ability to zoom in and out to see muscles, joints and the skeletal system, can easily be referenced during any encounter.”
“The transition to ICD-10 should be easy with this level of detail already built in. Orthopedic surgeons won’t have to search for the correct code using more complicated and time consuming crosswalks or general equivalence mappings (GEM),” said Dr. Daniel Prince, a practicing orthopedic surgeon and a member of the team that developed EMA Orthopedics.
Since no two orthopedic surgeons practice the same way, Modernizing Medicine built EMA Orthopedics with an adaptive learning engine, which adjusts to each provider’s unique practice style in real time, pulling up the surgeon’s most frequently used diagnoses and treatment plans first. The orthopedic surgeons behind EMA Orthopedics understand their peers are extremely detailed when it comes to an examination, and this is accounted for in the Virtual Exam Room™. From the exam, to diagnosis, to treatment plans, all relevant information is on one screen.
“I first identified EMA Orthopedics at the AAOS Annual Meeting 2013. I spent countless hours walking around the exhibit hall and spoke with almost every EMR vendor, reviewing how the systems input, collect and extract patient data. Of all of the EMR systems I saw, EMA had what I needed,” said Audley Mackel, M.D. at Associates in Orthopaedics, Inc. in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. “EMA is uniquely intuitive, with knowledge built in that doesn’t require setting up macros or templates. Its easy ‘point-and-click/tap’ user interface makes the note outputs clean and very organized – I don’t have to write any notes anymore. I also really appreciate the portability and convenience of the iPad application, as the device has become an intricate part of my day-to-day management tools.”
EMA Orthopedics demonstrations – led by Modernizing Medicine’s on staff orthopedic surgeons Drs. Jason Weisstein and Daniel Prince – will be available at the Modernizing Medicine booth, #4737, during the Annual AAOS meeting in New Orleans this week. Dan Marino*, former professional Quarterback, Hall of Famer and company ambassador for EMA Orthopedics, will also be at the Modernizing Medicine booth to greet attendees and discuss the benefits of using EMA Orthopedics.
