Modernizing Medicine Named Regional Finalist for the U.S. Chamber 2014 Small Business of the Year Award

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Chamber of Commerce today recognized Modernizing Medicine, Inc. of Boca Raton, Fla., as one of seven regional finalists for the 2014 DREAM BIG Small Business of the Year Award, sponsored by Sam’s Club®. As the Southeastern regional finalist, Modernizing Medicine stood out among companies in the region for its exceptional business practices and community involvement.

“Modernizing Medicine is an example of the powerful contributions small businesses can make not only in their communities and their states, but also more broadly to the country’s economic recovery,” U.S. Chamber President and CEO Thomas J. Modernizing Medicine, Inc. believes in saving time and improving patients’ medical outcomes. Its product, the Electronic Medical Assistant®—EMATM is a cloud-based electronic medical record (EMR) system that adapts to each provider’s preferences, reducing documentation time and improving medical coding.

The company recently received a $14 million equity investment and plans to add 50 team members in 2014. Co-founders Daniel Cane and Dr. Michael Sherling support youth development programs, partnering with local STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) magnet schools and the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!), a program that helps students launch a real business over the course of an academic year.

The Chamber will recognize Modernizing Medicine, Inc., the six other regional finalists, and 100 Blue Ribbon Award winners at the 10th annual America’s Small Business Summit, taking place June 11 – 13 in Washington, D.C. During the summit, one regional finalist will be named the DREAM BIG Small Business of the Year and receive a $10,000 cash prize courtesy of the U.S. Chamber.

States in the Southeastern regional category include Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
