The use of innovative technology in education will be the subject of an event Thursday presented by the South Florida Technology Alliance.

The event will take place at Citrix Systems, 851 W. Cypress Creek Road in Fort Lauderdale. It will begin with networking at 5 p.m., followed by presentations from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Chris Fleck, Citrix’s vice president of emerging solutions, will host the event. Speakers will include Dan Cane, chief of executive of Modernizing Medicine, an electronic medical records and data company in Boca Raton. Cane co-founded education software company Blackboard.

Other speakers will include Chris Harrison, chief technology officer for Nova Southeastern University in the Office of Innovation and Information Technology; John Edelson, founder and president of VocabularySpellingCity and Science4Us, used nationwide in elementary schools; and Robert Grillo, chief information officer for Florida International University and the 2013 winner in the Education category of the South Florida Digital Alliance Awards.
