NEHA KHAROD, MD

BACKGROUND

Dr. Neha Kharod, an allergy and asthma specialist, cofounded Prime Care of Georgia, located just outside of Savannah, in Pooler, Georgia. Her practice offers comprehensive testing, care and treatment of children and adults with symptoms of allergy, asthma, sinusitis and primary immune deficiency.

Dr. Kharod was using an EHR system that was counter-intuitive, lacked allergy-specific content, and was not iPad-compatible. She saw a demonstration of ModMed® Allergy and was instantly impressed with the detailed allergy-specific plans and diagnoses the system is equipped with, along with its ease of use. She selected the all-in-one allergy platform and discusses the benefits of using EMA® EHR, Practice Management (PM), Analytics and ModMed Pay.

ModMed Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, as seen on browser, iPad, smartphone and Apple Watch BUILT FOR ALLERGY

EMA was built for allergy and, therefore, is more efficient and thorough than other EHRs I’ve seen. As I am documenting a visit, it prompts me in an order that is almost like I’m noting in a paper chart. I joke that it’s like “allergy for dummies” because it’s so easy to use and walks me through a visit. EMA also adapts to my preferences and most-commonly used diagnoses, learning my habits and workflows.

Utilizing the iPad in the exam room is a game changer. I can position it aside, ensuring my patients feel truly seen and comfortable during our interaction. Entering information into the chart in real time is a breeze, maintaining that patient-doctor connection.

We do lab draws at the office, so I need to have the lab orders done quickly. I can have the label and everything ready while the lab draw is being done, so it makes that process a lot more efficient as well. Also, e-prescribing is very fast and can be sent to the pharmacy while the patient is checking out.

BETTER CLINICAL PRODUCTIVITY AND QUALITY OF LIFE

I’m quick, and I wanted an EHR that could keep up with me. With EMA, there are days that I can easily double my patient load, compared to my previous system, because it’s so efficient. I don’t have to slow down because of my EHR. And because the documentation is clear, we receive less pushback on reimbursements, which adds up to an increase in revenue.

In medicine, it’s very rare to have a nine-to-five day, but with ModMed Allergy, I’ve been able to finish my documentation on time. Before ModMed, my workday technically ended at 5PM, but there was still documentation that needed to be done after I got home, so I was working until around 8PM. Now, I’m actually done at 5PM when I leave the office. All of that extra work and long hours have been shifted off my plate, saving me at least two hours a day.

Since we’ve gone live with ModMed, as far as burnout or work-related stress and documentation-related stress, I’ve had at least a 50% reduction overall, if not more, which has allowed me to be more present with my family. I also have the ability to access patient information from my iPhone or iPad after hours if needed. For example, my nurse can message me to sign off on an allergy shot or ask a medication question, and I can easily sign or review what’s needed while I’m watching my child take taekwondo.

I’m running a practice and treating patients full time, and I’m also a mom who’s doing school pickup/drop-off and extracurricular activities. ModMed has provided me with the tools to make my day more efficient, so I can be present in all the roles in my life.

IMPROVED BILLING AND CODING

EMA and the Practice Management system work together seamlessly, so my billing team can view the patient notes, helping to reduce billing errors. Based on the documentation and procedures we’re doing, EMA suggests the billing codes in real time. It also helps me catch mistakes or things I might have missed in the notes. Similarly, it saves my billing team time, because everything is happening simultaneously. The justification is always there, giving the insurance companies fewer reasons to push back.

Because the system is interconnected, all of the benefits are interconnected. If you have a streamlined process, that makes you more efficient, and you spend less time looking for things or trying to remember things. Everything is in one place, everyone is getting their job done quicker, so at the end of the day, we can leave on time and have a healthy work-life balance. ModMed Allergy is efficient in that it’s not just quick, but it’s more accurate because it allows me to document and bill in near real time, before I move on to my next patient.

My notes are completed, and the services are billed, so there’s nothing lingering at the end of the day. I’m a big believer that if you can get something done now, get it done now, because in our line of work, you never know when an emergency will come up and you’ll have to put everything else on the back burner.

BE SEEN, BE HEARD

All of the technical components of ModMed Allergy have been worth the switch, but I want to bring it back to the human aspect of it. Everyone at ModMed, from the sales experience to the implementation and training process to the continued support, has made me feel seen and heard.

With my previous solution, if I needed help or had a complaint, it was as if my feedback went into space. With ModMed, I received a response the same day. No matter how good a product is, you need to have the people to back it up, and I feel like ModMed definitely has those people at every stage along the way.
