Why Heartland Foot and Ankle Switched Its EHR System to ModMed®

Dr. Melissa Lockwood describes her migration to ModMed® Podiatry for its built-in podiatry content, streamlined processes, time savings and patient engagement.

Here is a full transcription of the video:

I practice in Bloomington, Illinois. I'm a single-provider practice. Probably the most unique part about our particular setting and environment is the inherent need for as much streamlined process as possible. So, transitioning to a new electronic health record this year was very important to us.

I had joined the TRAKnet family, oh my goodness, back in 2011. So, when ModMed acquired TRAKnet last year, as a business person, it's not difficult for me to see, okay, this is the time for us to take a peek and see what options there are out there.

Nothing's ever perfect — but I will say that, you know, we were noticing there were some speed issues with respect to getting our documentation finished, as well as the inefficiencies at the front desk and things like that. We definitely knew that was the time.

We did a couple of different demos, both with the clinical side of things and then also on the financial practice management side, with ModMed and with several other systems actually. The TRAKnet transition to ModMed was a relatively simple process. I felt very informed. I felt that there was something happening every single week, that we knew what we were moving toward.

Our team — myself, my husband Scott, who's our practice administrator, and then our leads in each area — really took to heart that we were changing into something new and better and we wanted to learn the process as much as possible.

I spent a significant amount of time both in TRAKnet 2.0, and then the 3.0, customizing and really specializing our templates. It was a labor of love because I wanted to make sure that it was the way I wanted the documentation to be. I didn't need to do that with ModMed Podiatry.

For the most part, the 95% of what I'm doing, I was able to read through the protocols that are already made within ModMed and just be like, okay, that actually is what I do every day. So there wasn't the need to make a bunch of specific templates, which I was very appreciative of, and I think that speaks to a company that puts the time and effort into each of these specialties.
