We’re modernizing the gGastro Suite with a new name and continued commitment to innovation
Over the past few months, you may have heard the news that we had planned to change our name. Well, we are excited to announce that our name has officially changed from gMed® to Modernizing Medicine® Gastroenterology, Inc.
Why the change from gMed to Modernizing Medicine Gastroenterology?
Modernizing Medicine originally acquired gMed in September 2015 to increase its presence within the market and strengthen our product offerings. Since then, the gastroenterology EMR system and the products and services in the entire suite have continued to evolve to support gastroenterologists in their practices, ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) and hospitals.
Our new brand identity signifies the company’s unified growth, as well as our continued commitment to improving gastroenterology practices’ operational workflow, reducing administrative burden and increasing physician, employee and patient satisfaction.
What does this mean for you and your practice?
Although our name changed, we are not changing our dedication to the customer support and innovative product line that has made us the #1 GI EHR system* for the past eight years.
Plus, we will continue our efforts to bring new and advanced features and functionality to the gGastro suite of products, including:
- Performance and scalability enhancements
- Additional mobile capabilities
- Patient engagement features with improved patient workflow
- Clinical decision support and clinical content enhancements
- New integration tools
- Expanded reporting capabilities for both gPM™ and gInsights™
How will this impact your day to day interactions with our team—who you know and trust?
You might be wondering how this will impact your day-to-day use of gGastro products and services. The answer is, it will not.
You will still use the same login information for the platform and will find the same functionality as before. Over time, as you upgrade, you may notice new branding and logos in some of our products. But our product names such as gGastro® EHR, gPM and gInsights will remain the same.
Most importantly, you will still receive the same great service and support from the team you know and trust. Everything remains the same—just with a new color palette, logo and name. Welcome to Modernizing Medicine Gastroenterology!

Karen Richards
Vice President, Gastroenterology
As the Vice President of Gastroenterology, Karen is responsible for the overall strategic direction and success of the gastroenterology (GI) vertical and joined the Modernizing Medicine team in October 2016.
Karen brought her extensive experience in healthcare and business operations, including over 10 years directing the administration of a broad portfolio of healthcare programs and projects. This included academic and health services research, clinical trials, case study and clinical guideline development, clinical registries and outcomes measurement, regulatory reporting and compliance, accreditation and standards setting, and performance and process improvement programs for the American College of Surgeons (ACS), a large scientific and education-focused medical association.
Karen created the initial business and marketing plans for the ACS National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP), a clinical registry based quality improvement program. The initiative grew from a grant-funded project into an internationally successful and highly regarded surgical quality improvement program with more than 600 hospitals participating around the world.
Karen also successfully led the development of a unified accreditation program between the ACS and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons, which now collectively accredits and supports more than 700 participating bariatric surgical centers.
Karen relocated from Chicago to South Florida in 2014. Upon relocation, Ms. Richards utilized her strong background in operations, strategic planning, and process improvement as the chief operating officer for a local nonprofit entity for the two years prior to her joining Modernizing Medicine. Karen enjoys gardening, home improvement, biking, traveling, riding around town in her golf cart and spending time with her family.
