ModMed statement on CMS decision to terminate ModMed as a Qualified Registry

On July 22, 2026, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released an update to the 2026 Qualified Clinical Data Registry (QCDR) and Qualified Registry postings, listing ModMed as “Terminated: No longer a 2026 Qualified Registry.” ModMed immediately appealed this ruling, but CMS has decided to move forward with ModMed’s registry termination.

This termination only impacts the MIPS Quality category submission starting in the 2027 Performance Period. Customers can continue to submit your MIPS Quality data through the ModMed Registry for the performance year ending December 31, 2026. CMS has confirmed that ModMed and its users will be fully supported through the completion of the 2026 MIPS performance period, including data submission in 2027. On August 13, CMS updated the official posting on their website to reflect this fact.

Starting on January 1, 2027, for the Quality category, customers will need to submit through a third-party registry. Customers may choose any third-party registry to submit. Today, ModMed supports interfaces with the following 3rd-party registries for Quality reporting, with more to come in the future:

  • Healthmonix (All specialties)
  • Patient360 (All specialties)
  • DataDerm (Dermatology)
  • IRIS (Ophthalmology)
  • Reg-ent (ENT)
  • AQUA (Urology)
  • RegistryClearinghouse (Podiatry)

The CMS decision does not impact customers of ModMed’s MIPS Advising Service. Customers who subscribe to ModMed’s MIPS Advising Service should reach out to their ModMed contact person for assistance in determining the best course of action for quality reporting moving forward.

The registry termination also has no impact on ModMed’s Certified Electronic Health Record Technology (CEHRT) status. Customers can continue to use EMA to document and track the “Promoting Interoperability” and “Improvement Activity” categories without interruption and submit those categories directly through the Quality Payment Program (QPP) website.
