Shana’s story
I began my journey in healthcare administration years ago and have always been passionate about improving practice efficiency and patient satisfaction. Over time, I’ve gained insights into technology’s role in simplifying processes and creating a more productive team environment. When I first started at A to Z Dermatology, I saw an opportunity to leverage technology to transform patient care and practice operations.
Taking the plunge into modernizing our office wasn’t easy, but it was necessary. Implementing ModMed was a turning point. Improving operations and enhancing patient care
When I first arrived at the practice, we faced several challenges. Our providers were only able to see 20 patients per day and they were typing out all their notes, we used paper superbills and tracked everything from patient referrals to office operations on spreadsheets. Transitioning from our previous systems to ModMed’s solutions was like night and day. The old system was cumbersome and time-consuming, with too many tabs and inefficiencies. ModMed is intuitive and user-friendly, saving time and reducing stress for everyone in the office.
Once we began to integrate ModMed and utilize it more efficiently, we focused on training our medical assistants as scribes. The results were immediate. Within months, our providers were able to see 40-50 patients daily while maintaining our high level of care. The patient experience improved significantly, with wait times reduced to an average of eight minutes. My philosophy is simple: patients always come first. When patients call for urgent issues, we do our best to accommodate them on the same day. We want to ensure no patient waits more than 24 hours for care, depending on insurance requirements.
One of the most exciting improvements came in our revenue cycle management. Having implemented and used ModMed in previous practices, I saw how proper use of ModMed could transform financial outcomes. Making changes, we saw growth from two to five facilities and an increase in revenue of 650% over just two years. It wasn’t just about seeing more patients; it was about billing correctly and capturing appropriate revenue for the care provided.

These tools have revolutionized how we connect with our community. Using ModMed AMP, we now generate over 200 leads monthly and we are now a 5-star practice. The system allows us to provide patients with their preferred communication method through texting, sending communications based on the target market, and the ability to manage our online reputation effectively.
Today, our practice has grown to five locations with 20 providers, with plans to expand to seven locations in the future. The growth has largely been possible because of ModMed’s ability to scale with us as we expand.

Throughout this journey, I’ve learned that the biggest risk in healthcare today is not embracing technology. While change is inevitable, having the right technology partner makes all the difference.
