Augusta Eye MD shares the benefits of using data analytics.

Every year we’d like to give out what we called Momentum Innovation Award, otherwise known as the MIA. It goes out to one practice that takes great pride in the operational success and patient delight they’ve had as a result of adopting our solutions and building a strong partnership. I’m here with our 2020 MIA award winners, Dr. Jared Staats and Jeffrey Marks from Augusta, M.D. Congratulations on winning our highly coveted Momentum Innovation Award. Guys, thank you. Thanks so much. Appreciate it.

In your submission, you really highlighted the operational efficiencies gained through your data analytics, can you share that experience. We assigned the office rooms on ModMed to our individual technicians. So each of our rooms is the technicians name. And that allows me to track how long they’re spending time for patients, what testing that’s doing, and get a sense for maybe who’s a little bit too quick, who’s a little bit too slow, who’s missing steps in the workup that was necessary. And then once we had that raw data, Jeffrey’s been wonderful in terms of making that a little bit more sophisticated for us.

What we basically did is after we had those numbers of patient interaction between each of our employees, we subgrouped each of our employees into a set depending on what their job responsibilities were. So our Scroggs, Artax, our special task that each of those go to the separate group and then can be compared against each other based on our ADP reports. So payroll hours, all of those things go into an efficiency ratio which correlate how much it costs us effectively to employ that person per patient and also how many patients that person will see in and out.

And in doing so, you’ll get a ideally, obviously, nothing is ideal and data science, but you would get a perfectly inverse correlation ratio between a constant growth in the number of patients to each employee is seeing and a decreasing ratio in the cost per patient. Now, I agree. In doing that, we’ve been able to benchmark not only where our current employees were, where they’re going, what our expectations are for new employees. You know pretty much everything in terms of micro and macroscopic, you know, understanding of our of our employees’ capabilities. And again, it gives us the ability to push forward and hopefully see where we’re going to be in the next year.
