Using Drawing Tools to Document a Urology Visit

Drawing is something that I find very helpful when I'm counseling a patient, for example, with stone disease. I may show them where the stone is located. I may show them different approaches to treat the stone, whether we're doing a ureteroscopy and coming in a retrograde approach or going percutaneously right through the back to break up the stone and fragment it. Not only does it help with the understanding, not only does it help with building that communication with the patient, but it serves as a method of documentation so that when you do look back, you can see that conversation memorialized, whether that patient is looking back on it in reference or you are justifying what you've done in communication.
