St. Petersburg Dermatology Experiences Operational Benefits by Using the ModMed® Dermatology Suite

St. Petersburg Dermatology discusses the benefits of one, integrated healthcare solution and shares their experience with modmed Pay, one of Modernizing Medicine’s latest offerings.

When the practice opened in 2017, the group selected EMA®, the award-winning* dermatology EHR system from Modernizing Medicine®. Having a healthy work-life balance was important to the physicians, so they needed a dermatology EHR that was efficient, intuitive and dermatology-specific.

Following the adoption of the dermatology EHR, the practice later implemented the Practice Management (PM) system and modmed® Pay payments platform, which comprise one integrated solution. Practice Owner and Office Manager Rob Arrington discusses the benefits of these solutions and how the practice continues to thrive.

EMA HELPS WORK-LIFE BALANCE

Dr. Elizabeth Arrington, my wife and practice owner, used a general EHR system at her previous practice that was not dermatology-specific and left her with completing charts for hours at the end of the day. She became frustrated, more often than not, because charting time spilled over into home time and interfered with our family.

When we decided to open our own practice, we wanted to find the best dermatology EHR that would help make her personal life and work life better. After conducting research, we quickly found that EMA had a good reputation in the market and seemed to be the crème de la crème of dermatology EHR systems.

EMA is dermatology-specific, which is one of the biggest advantages compared to the previous EHR she used. Documentation is a lot easier and she spends less time completing notes in EMA. Our staff has also used various other systems, and they all agree that EMA is the best and easiest EHR they’ve experienced.

SEAMLESS SCHEDULING, BILLING AND PAYMENTS

After much success with EMA, we implemented the Practice Management system because we wanted all-in-one dermatology software. This transition resulted in faster check-in/checkout and enhanced visibility into financials. Compared to our previous system, it’s now easier to manage denials, issue refunds and post payments, which aids in collecting more money.

Following the adoption of the Practice Management system, we were approached by the Modernizing Medicine team to be a beta user for modmed Pay, a payment system integrated with Practice Management. Although we were skeptical of being the first beta, the training was really easy and we were very impressed by the support we received from the Modernizing Medicine team. We went live on a Monday and they were monitoring payments on the backend. It was a super easy and smooth transition.

modmed Pay is easier to navigate, run reports and view posted transactions compared to other payment processors I’ve used. Also, all patient information is in one database, which is a big differentiator from other vendors. Working with a disjointed system creates extra work. With the time saved, we can allocate staff members to other important areas of the practice.

A QUALITY DERMATOLOGY SOFTWARE SUITE

Deciding to implement a solution that’s all integrated and includes the best dermatology EHR EMA—to me that’s a no- brainer. modmed Dermatology and modmed Pay might be a little more expensive than other systems, but we recognize the value we’re getting and it’s worth every penny if it makes my wife’s life a little better.

We are running a small business, and my job is to reduce problems and stress while growing and scaling the practice. Modernizing Medicine continues to be an ally we trust.
