#MeetModMed Series

As an award-winning technology company, ModMed® is known primarily for its innovative medical specialty-specific solutions. But that’s only half the story. The people that work here are at the core of what we do — they shape everything from how our all-in-one solutions are developed, to how we interact with practices, and everything in-between.

#MeetModMed is a series dedicated to exploring the numerous healthcare technology careers our organization offers, all through the lens of our fantastic people.

In this #MeetModMed, we talk with our senior vice president of payment and OBGYN, Celine Kaiser, about her rewarding career in product management.

ModMed: What does a typical day look like for you at ModMed?

Celine Kaiser: When I joined ModMed in 2019, I moved from Washington, DC, to Boca Raton, the site of ModMed’s corporate headquarters. I am lucky to live just 15 minutes away from the office.

A typical day for me starts with dropping my daughter off at school before grabbing a coffee on the go. I get to the office before 8 AM, and I like to use the next hour to prep for the day or to catch up informally with colleagues.

My workday starts in earnest at 9 a.m. After that, I’m usually in meetings for most of the day. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, ModMed caters lunch for all employees, and I make sure I use that time to sit down and have a meal with someone.

I also travel when overseeing a launch, which changes my routine. There is nothing better than getting on-site and hearing directly from our clients. Talking to the medical and administrative teams who use our products is the only way to truly understand how we are doing and if there are ways we can improve.

While our days are busy, it’s important to me that I make time to build relationships. I interact with many different people and teams across the organization, so I need to be able to lead by influence to be successful in my role. Networking is key to this.

Connecting with colleagues on a personal level helps me achieve the high degree of trust and collaboration we all need to enjoy our work and be successful.

ModMed: You started working at ModMed in March 2019 – right around the pandemic! Describe the changes you’ve either applied to or noticed in ModMed since then.

Celine Kaiser: The pandemic changed a lot — both for our clients and us.

Having more time at home gave me a fresh perspective on what is most important. Now that we’re all back in person, I’m focusing on continuing to make time for loved ones. For instance, in August, I traveled for four days a week, three weeks in a row. During that period, I was more intentional about spending time together as a family than I would have been in the past.

The pandemic was transformational for our clients, too. Medical practices had to transition quickly to virtual and digital ways of working with patients. Now, as things return to normal, that expectation remains.

Our role at ModMed is to take everything we learned during COVID-19 and apply it to our solutions. Patients can now do everything outside of their face-to-face visit at home, from filling out their medical history to paying their copay. We want them to spend the minimum possible time in the practice — especially in the waiting room.

ModMed: How does ModMed help you to prioritize a healthy work-life balance?

Celine Kaiser: Before coming to ModMed, I had worked in the technology space for almost twenty years. I always tell people that ModMed is the best place I’ve ever worked!

We have a shared goal — improving patient outcomes and giving providers a better work-life balance. Being aligned on that enables us to collaborate. Everyone is moving in the same direction.

ModMed does a great job of celebrating success. We know everyone is giving a lot, and we recognize our team’s achievements. That helps keep everyone motivated.

ModMed also offers a lot of flexibility to employees. As long as you are working towards your goals and performing well, you can organize your time in a way that allows you to balance your work and personal life. If I need to leave early to catch my son’s football game or come in late after a parent-teacher conference, I can.

Knowing I can take the time I need for my family while also doing great work is a win-win!

ModMed: Your role includes overseeing product launches, strategic initiatives, and ultimately, scalable solutions across our entire organization. Can you describe your leadership style?

Celine Kaiser: I am very research-oriented and goal-driven. I make a plan to reach my intended outcome — whether it’s in two weeks or 12 months down the road.

That’s also how I manage others. This year, I oversaw the launch of our OBGYN specialty. For that project, I worked with teams across the organization, including product management, research and development, sales, marketing and client services. I needed to organize and set up those teams for success so everything went smoothly on launch day.

My leadership style is to agree on a plan together, provide direction where it’s needed and make sure I hold myself and my team accountable to our goals.

I am also very relationship-oriented. Investing time with the people I work with lets me learn what I can do to help them succeed.

In a major launch, there will inevitably be roadblocks to overcome. I see myself as a problem-solver who can help people move forward if they get stuck.

ModMed: What are some common characteristics of your ModMed colleagues?

Celine Kaiser: Because of the nature of my role, I work with many different people across the organization. Some are creative; some are research-driven; some are analytical. I learn from them, and I hope they learn from me!

Everyone I work with brings unique qualities to their role, but we share a common goal. We are all excited by what we are doing and want to keep improving the experience for patients and practitioners.

ModMed: Which of ModMed’s core values best reflects your personality?

Celine Kaiser: “Think big. Have fun. Do good.” One of my favorite things about working at ModMed is that we place a lot of value on building connections at work. I’m a member of mmWIT – Modernizing Medicine Women in Innovation and Technology, one of our affinity groups.

I also enjoy events like ModMed 5000, where we form teams and compete to reach 5000 miles together. We can walk, bike, run, rollerblade, row – whatever it takes to reach our goal.

We like to have fun, and if it has a purpose, even better!
