FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ACG-SOUTH FLORIDA TO HONOR ULTIMATE SOFTWARE, MODERNIZING MEDICINE AND THE ACQUISITION OF SIMPLY HEALTHCARE BY ANTHEM
Fort Lauderdale, Florida. June 9, 2015. The South Florida Chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG-South Florida) announced today that it has selected Ultimate Software Group Inc. as its Outstanding Growth Company, Modernizing Medicine Inc. as its Emerging Growth Company and the acquisition of Simply Healthcare Holdings Inc. by Anthem Inc. (NYSE:ANTM) as its Transaction of the Year.
ACG-South Florida will honor its 2015 award winners at a cocktail reception and awards ceremony beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 11th, at the Doubletree Hilton® in Deerfield Beach, Florida.
John Majer, a Tax Partner with McGladrey LLP, a national accounting firm, and President of ACG South Florida, noted, “Each year when we discuss candidates for our awards we try to identify something that makes these companies stand out, both because of their business model but also because of what they mean for the south Florida business community. We think that our 2015 Growth and Emerging Growth winners, Ultimate Software and Modernizing Medicine, respectively, may be models for what the future holds for south Florida, and maybe the country – businesses that integrate technology and people resulting in quality jobs, as well as quality products and services.”
Ultimate Software, the winner of the ACG-South Florida 2015 Growth Company award, is a leading provider of cloud-based Human Capital Management solutions with more than 19 million people records in the cloud. Ultimate’s award-winning UtilPro delivers HR, payroll, talent and time and labor management solutions that connect people with the information they need to work more effectively. Founded in 1990, the company is headquartered in Weston, Florida, and employs more than 2,500 professionals.
Modernizing Medicine, the winner of the ACG-South Florida Emerging Growth Company award, is transforming how healthcare information is created, consumed and utilized in order to increase efficiency and improve outcomes. The company’s flagship product, Electronic Medical Assistant® (EMA™), is a cloud-based, specialty-specific electronic medical record (EMR) system built by practicing physicians and available as a native IPad application. Modernizing Medicine provides EMA for dermatologists, orthopedic surgeons, ophthalmologists, plastic surgeons, otolaryngologists, gastroenterologists and urologists. Founded in 2010, the company is headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida and employs more than 275 professionals.
Anthem’s acquisition of Simply Healthcare, the winner of the ACG-South Florida Transaction award, was part of Anthem’s desire to expand its government business division and add more customers in Florida, which Anthem called “a key market for growth.” Simply Healthcare provides managed-care plans for Floridians in government-backed Medicaid and Medicare programs. Prior to the sale, Simply Healthcare was majority-owned by Coral Gables-based investment firm, MBF Healthcare Partners, led by entrepreneur and billionaire Mike Fernandez. Terms of the transaction were not announced but Anthem’s Securities and Exchange Commission filings indicate that the preliminary goodwill relating to the acquisition exceeded the fair value of Simply Healthcare’s assets by $488.9 million. Anthem, Inc. is one of the largest health benefits companies in the United States. Through its affiliated health plans and guided by the belief in a strong local presence, Anthem insures 1 in 9 Americans.
