ALLERGY TEAM LEAD

Dr. Shoban Dave is the Allergy Team Lead and is board-certified in Allergy-Immunology. In this role, he is responsible for designing and developing content for the ModMed Allergy electronic health record platform.

Dr. Dave received his Medical Doctorate and Bachelor of Science degrees from Pennsylvania State University as part of an integrated program through Schreyer Honors College. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Medical University of South Carolina and his Allergy & Immunology fellowship at Mayo Clinic.

Dr. Dave has practiced in large and small health care systems, actively leveraging technology to enhance efficiency and quality of care. As an early user of both Klara and XTRACT SOLUTIONS, he views technology as a tool to enhance both the patient and provider experience.

Dr. Dave practices at Flatiron Allergy and Asthma Center and has been recognized as a “Top Doctor” by 5280 Magazine and Baltimore Magazine. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology and the American College of Allergy, Asthma, & Immunology.

CHIEF MEDICAL AND STRATEGY OFFICER & CO-FOUNDER

Dr. Michael Sherling is cofounder and Chief Medical and Strategy Officer of ModMed®. His personal passion aligns with the company’s mission of transforming how healthcare information is created, consumed and utilized to increase practice efficiency and patient outcomes. As a practicing physician, he knows firsthand just how important specialty-specific knowledge and workflows are, when it comes to saving time and focusing on patient care.

Michael is responsible for the strategy and medical innovation within the ModMed suite of products and services for dermatology, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, plastic surgery, otolaryngology and urology specialties. Under his leadership, ModMed has established a growing user base of over 15,000 providers.

Michael is a dynamic public speaker and has had the honor of presenting at various industry events including: the Association of Dermatology Administrators & Managers (ADAM) Annual Meetings since 2017, the 2016 Dermatology Entrepreneurship Conference and the 2015 Health 2.0 Conference, “Tools to Fix the Clinical User Experience.”

Michael has been a practicing dermatologist since 2006 and currently practices in a comprehensive skin care dermatology group in Palm Beach County, Florida. He is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology.

Prior to relocating to Florida, he was the Associate Director of Laser Medicine and Skin Health at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and served as the Associate Residency Program Director for Harvard Medical School’s Department of Dermatology. He has several publications in peer-reviewed medical literature.

Michael obtained his BS in Biology at Brown University with honors in 1996, his MD from Yale School of Medicine with honors in 2002 and his MBA from Yale School of Management in 2002. He received his clinical training at Harvard Medical School, where he served as chief resident in dermatology.

SENIOR MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF DERMATOLOGY

Dr. Jordan Miller is the Senior Medical Director of Dermatology. As one of the first ModMed® clients, he quickly became a “super-user.” Today, as a practicing dermatologist, Dr. Miller leads development of the dermatology-specific electronic health record system and works with clients to create specialty-specific software.

Dr. Miller is a graduate of the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee where he also completed his dermatology residency. A native of Northern Arizona, he also started his career in private practice in Arizona after attending Brigham Young University and graduating in 2000. He is board certified in dermatology and his practice centers on medical and surgical dermatology, including Mohs’ micrographic surgery.

DERMATOLOGY TEAM LEAD

Dr. C. Lynn Cheng is the Dermatology Team Lead and is a board-certified dermatologist. In this role, she is responsible for designing and developing content for the ModMed® Dermatology electronic health record platform.

Dr. Cheng received her bachelor of science degree, magna cum laude, and her medical degree from Duke University. She completed her dermatology residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Upon completion, Dr. Cheng worked in private practice in Wisconsin before moving back to North Carolina. She currently works at Central Dermatology Center in Chapel Hill where she focuses on medical dermatology.

Dr. Cheng is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology.

GASTROENTEROLOGY TEAM LEAD

Dr. Jason Sugar is the lead gastroenterologist for ModMed. He received his bachelor of science in biology at the University of Iowa and his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Colorado and fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Kansas.

Dr. Sugar practices gastroenterology full time at Washington Gastroenterology, where he also serves as chief medical officer. He also has extensive experience in practice management and operations.

MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF OBGYN

Dr. Nigel A. Spier is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologic surgeon and a medical director of obstetrics and gynecology at ModMed®. In this role, he helps design and develop content for the ModMed OBGYN EHR system, drawing on over 25 years of clinical experience.

Dr. Spier is a champion for digital solutions that empower clinicians to reclaim their time so they can focus on patient care and achieve the best possible outcomes. He has extensive experience with integrating EMR workflows and has been featured on Apple’s “Macs in Business” website.

Dr. Spier received his MD from McGill University and completed his residency at George Washington University. He is the Past Chief of OBGYN at Memorial Regional Hospital, in Hollywood, Florida, where he currently serves as Chief of Staff.

MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF OBGYN

Dr. Hung Ecklund is the medical director of obstetrics and gynecology at ModMed®. In this role, she helps design and develop content for the ModMed OBGYN-specific EHR, drawing on two decades of clinical experience. She is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologic surgeon.

Dr. Ecklund strives to provide excellent, comprehensive and compassionate care, and treats every patient as if they were members of her own family. She is passionate about developing a medical record system that delivers on the promise of being more efficient and productive, one that helps doctors spend less time documenting and more time doing what they were called to do — care for patients.

Dr. Ecklund obtained her undergraduate degree in biological sciences from the University of Southern California where she graduated summa cum laude. She earned her MD from Yale University School of Medicine and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical honor society. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of California in Irvine, serving as the administrative chief in her final year. Dr. Ecklund has remained in her long-time OBGYN practice with the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, where she continues to care for patients in the Bay Area. She will be providing gynecological services to low-income and uninsured individuals through her volunteer work with Samaritan House, a highly-respected free clinic in San Mateo County.

Director of Ophthalmology

Dr. Michael B. Rivers is the Director of Ophthalmology. In this role, he helps ModMed® evolve the ophthalmology platform by combining his years of experience as a board-certified ophthalmologist and retina surgeon with his expertise implementing and using the EMA® EHR system at the Retina Group of Washington (RGW). Michael speaks with physician users, listens to their needs and communicates them to the development, customer success and other teams at ModMed.

Michael was a practicing ophthalmologist, partner and board member at RGW in Washington, DC, from 1991 until 2017. In addition, he was a Surgical Retina and Vitreous Fellow at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from 1989 to 1991.

No stranger to the intersection of technology and medicine, Michael wrote a computer database to help automate his clinic and manage patient information electronically while he was a resident. He is passionate about helping doctors be better doctors by diminishing the time and effort needed to run the business, so they can spend more time with patients.

The Georgetown Ophthalmology Department has honored Michael twice as Teacher of the Year. In addition, RGW recognized him for his exceptional efforts with the transition to their EHR system.

Michael obtained his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Princeton University and was elected to join Sigma Xi, the national Scientific Research Honor Society, and earned his MD from Weill Cornell Medical College. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at The New York Hospital Department of Ophthalmology.

MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF OPHTHALMOLOGY

Dr. Eric Jennings is the Medical Director of Ophthalmology. He is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist specializing in cataract surgery, refractive surgery and the management of corneal and external disease.

Dr. Jennings completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Georgia, graduating with honors. He then received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. He completed his Ophthalmology Residency as well as a fellowship in Cornea, External Disease and Refractive Surgery at the University of Florida Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL. During his residency, he served as Chief Resident and was recognized with several awards including Resident of the Year and the Teaching Scholars Outstanding Educator.

Dr. Jennings practices as a referral ophthalmologist in Atlanta, Georgia where he specializes in cataract, refractive and corneal surgery. His other interests include AI in healthcare and digital health solutions. In addition, his experience as a consultant, beta tester and super user has allowed him to integrate the latest technology into his practice, as well as help innovate new technology used in medicine and healthcare.

Dr. Jennings is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology. He has been an active participant in several clinical studies, including helping to pioneer pre-loaded DMEK (corneal transplant) tissue.

OPHTHALMOLOGY TEAM LEAD, POSTERIOR SEGMENT

Dr. Paul Gallogly is the Ophthalmology Team Lead, Posterior Segment. He is a board-certified ophthalmologist who received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Florida. He graduated with honors and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Gallogly completed an internship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach. Following his internship, he completed his residency in ophthalmology at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami.

In addition, Dr. Gallogly completed a fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute where he served as chief resident, Co-Director of Ocular Trauma and a member of the Residency Selection Committee. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Florida Society of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists. Dr. Gallogly has been an active participant in a number of clinical studies and has published articles in distinguished medical journals.

SENIOR MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF MUSCULOSKELETAL

Dr. Elana M. Oberstein is Senior Medical Director of Musculoskeletal. A board-certified internist with a subspecialty in Arthritis and Autoimmune Disease, Dr. Oberstein is also a certified clinical densitometrist (CCD) with expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis.

Dr. Oberstein received her bachelor of arts degree, cum laude, from Harvard University. Dr. Oberstein graduated with research distinction from the University of Miami School of Medicine with a dual medical degree and master of public health. She completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital. She served as chief medical resident for the Department of Medicine. Subsequently, she completed a fellowship in the Division of Rheumatology and Immunology. During her time at the University of Miami, Dr. Oberstein was inducted into the Iron Arrow Society, the highest honor attainable at the University.

Dr. Oberstein now serves as a voluntary faculty member with the Division of Rheumatology and Immunology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

Dr. Oberstein serves as a mentor to first and second year medical students. She is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Physicians, Florida Society of Rheumatology and the American College of Rheumatology (ACR). She has presented original scholarly work at the Annual Session of the ACR. She is also a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.

MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF ORTHOPEDICS

Dr. Suezie Kim is a Medical Director of Orthopedics at ModMed. With extensive expertise in basic and complex sports medicine, trauma and general orthopedic surgery, she has established herself as a board-certified professional in the field. Dr. Kim is passionate about treating athletic injuries and performing arthroscopic surgery on the hips, knees and shoulders.

After completing her medical training at the University of Vermont, College of Medicine in Burlington, VT, Dr. Kim did her orthopedic residency at the prestigious Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York.

An engaged professional, Dr. Kim maintains memberships with esteemed organizations such as the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine. Additionally, she is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Dr. Kim currently practices orthopedics at Tucson Orthopaedic Institute and is affiliated with esteemed hospitals in Tucson, AZ, including TMC Healthcare-Tucson and Carondelet St. Mary’s Hospital.

MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF ORTHOPEDICS

Dr. David Wei is a Medical Director of Orthopedics at ModMed. He is a board-certified Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in hand and upper extremity surgery. Dr. Wei’s surgical expertise includes microsurgical nerve reconstruction, arthroscopic treatment of wrist and elbow disorders, tendon reconstruction and repair, and endoscopic treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome. He diagnoses and treats various upper extremity conditions in both pediatric and adult patients, such as arthritis, fractures, sports injuries and nerve compression syndromes.

Graduating from Yale University with honors, Dr. Wei holds a combined Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry. He earned his medical degree at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed his residency training at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University. Subsequently, he pursued fellowship training in hand and upper extremity surgery at Tufts University Medical Center/New England Baptist Hospital.

Dr. Wei has authored and published numerous peer-reviewed articles in esteemed orthopedic journals. He has been invited to present his work at various regional, national and international meetings for associations such as the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH), Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA), American Orthopaedic Association (AOA), and the Congress of the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopedics and Traumatology.

Senior Principal Medical Director of Otolaryngology & Allergy

Dr. David Lehman is Senior Principal Medical Director of Otolaryngology & Allergy. Dr. Lehman completed his undergraduate studies at Yale University in 1995. After spending a year as a research diver for the University of Miami, he entered medical school at the University of Florida, graduating as co-valedictorian in 2000. He then returned to his hometown of Miami to enter residency at University of Miami – Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Lehman was a partner at Palm Beach Ear, Nose, and Throat Association from 2005 to 2015, and at ENT and Allergy Associates of Florida from 2015 to 2025, practicing as a general otolaryngologist – head and neck surgeon. For many years, his main practice interests were in the field of head and neck surgery, specializing in surgery of the thyroid and parathyroid glands and advanced skin cancers of the head and neck, including melanoma. He also has an interest in advanced endoscopic sinus surgery techniques, and was one of a small number of surgeons in Florida regularly performing endoscopic orbital decompression surgery for Graves’ eye disease. He recently left private practice and now donates his time and services at Mission Medical Center in Delray Beach, FL. Dr. Lehman has served as the Chief of Surgery at Good Samaritan Medical Center in West Palm Beach, from 2008 – 2010.

MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF PAIN MANAGEMENT

Dr. Joel Salamon serves as the Medical Director of Pain Management. He graduated from the University of Chicago and earned his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine. Following this, he completed his internship and anesthesia residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Subsequently, he underwent fellowship training in pain management at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

Dr. Salamon is board-certified in anesthesiology with a subspecialty certification in pain management. He is also board-certified in pain management by the American Board of Pain Medicine. He has been nominated three times for the Florida Choice Award for Best Pain Management Physician, which recognizes excellence in workers’ compensation medical care, winning it once.

Dr. Salamon is highly knowledgeable in a wide range of pain management treatments. He specializes in interventional procedures such as epidural steroid injections, facet injections, sympathetic blocks, radiofrequency and neuroablative procedures, and intradiscal procedures. He has a particular interest in spinal cord stimulation and intrathecal drug delivery and has also worked as an instructor for Medtronic Corporation, teaching these procedures to other physicians.

MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF PLASTIC SURGERY

Dr. Michael Brickman is the Medical Director of Plastic Surgery. He is a board-certified plastic surgeon who has been in private practice in Huntington, NY, since 2007. After using two other EHR systems, he switched to ModMed® in 2017 and never looked back. He is pleased that ModMed will be the last EHR he will ever need.

As medical director, Dr. Brickman’s goal is to field suggestions and recommendations from his fellow EMA® users and continue to make improvements to what he feels is already the best product in the space. As the product keeps improving, so do the practices using it.

Dr. Brickman received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Indiana University and his medical degree from St. George’s University of Medicine. He graduated from his General Surgery residency at the University of Hawaii and completed his Plastic Surgery training at Nassau University Medical Center, which is run by the Long Island Plastic Surgical Group.

MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF PODIATRY

Dr. Guiliana is a nationally recognized speaker and author on topics pertaining to medical practice management. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Podiatric Practice Management and holds a master’s degree in Healthcare Management. He has authored numerous columns in various journals and is the co-author of 31 ½ Essentials to Running Your Medical Practice, as well as The Million Dollar Practice…Keys to Success. MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF PODIATRY

Dr. Catherine Churchill is the Medical Director of Podiatry at ModMed®. Her extensive experience in podiatric surgery makes her a natural fit for her role in developing and directing podiatric content for EMA®.

Dr. Churchill completed her undergraduate education at Tulane University in New Orleans. She then attended Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia, where she graduated as class valedictorian. She also completed a three-year residency program in foot and ankle surgery at Jersey Shore University Medical Center and is currently board-certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery.

MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF UROLOGY

Dr. Nadeem Dhanani is the Medical Director of Urology. He received his bachelor of science degree from Duke University in Biology and Public Policy Studies, graduating cum laude. He earned his degree in medicine at the University of Florida, followed by an internship in general surgery and residency in Urological Surgery at the University of Texas – Houston and MD Anderson Cancer Center. He completed further subspecialty fellowship training in Urologic Oncology at the National Cancer Institute on the campus of the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Dhanani also holds a Master of Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Dhanani was the chief of urology at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates in Boston, in addition to serving on faculty at Harvard Medical School and as a member of the Dana-Farber Harvard Cancer Center. He was also on staff at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital and the Director of Robotic Surgery at Mt. Auburn Hospital.

Dr. Dhanani has a specific interest in medical innovation and device design, in addition to his clinical focus on urologic oncology, and continues to collaborate with the Harvard School of Engineering and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In addition to being named to the Houston Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 list in 2013, Dr. Dhanani was awarded a Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) grant for prevention and early detection for bladder cancer research in collaboration with the Rice School of Engineering.

UROLOGY TEAM LEAD

Dr. Tygenhof received his bachelor of arts from Stanford University, earned his degree in medicine from the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine, and did his residency at the USC Institute of Urology.

He is a board-certified urologist and fellow of the American College of Surgeons, specializing in general urology with a particular emphasis in stone disease and robotic surgery, and practices in Fullerton, California, as a partner at Southland Urology.

Dr. Tygenhof has served in leadership roles at St. Jude Medical Center, Fullerton, in the capacity of medical director of urologic surgery, medical director of the St. Jude Comprehensive Kidney Stone Center, and vice chair of surgery.

DIRECTOR OF CLINICAL DATA AND OUTCOMES

Dr. April Armstrong is a Clinical Data and Outcomes Consultant at ModMed®, as well as Vice Chair of Clinical Research, Director of Clinical Trials and Outcomes Research and Director of Psoriasis Clinic at the Department of Dermatology, University of Colorado Denver. Dr. Armstrong’s expertise includes outcomes research, psoriasis and technology-enabled healthcare delivery. Dr. Armstrong obtained a doctor of medicine (MD) from Harvard Medical School and completed her dermatology residency at the Harvard Dermatology Residency Program. She has authored over 130 peer-reviewed scientific publications and has been an editor for the top pharmacology textbook, Principles of Pharmacology. Dr. Armstrong believes that good clinical practice needs to be rooted in evidence-based medicine.

Dr. Armstrong has extensive experience applying bioinformatics tools to extract clinical information from electronic medical record (EMR) systems and analyzing that data for epidemiologic research in psoriasis. She has analyzed and published on EMR-based data at Harvard and the University of California. For example, working with bioinformatics collaborators, she examined the association between psoriasis and severity of hypertension using a multi-stage data extraction process from the UCD EMR system and validated the findings. She has also identified various cardiovascular risk factors and outcomes that are elevated in psoriasis patients. Her analysis of EMR-based data has resulted in multiple publications in high-impact journals that advanced the field.
