Developed as a native cloud, mobile and data-driven system, Modernizing Medicine’s EHR system is the third generation healthcare technology to watch
Boca Raton, Florida – April 13, 2015 – Modernizing Medicine, Inc., the creator of the Electronic Medical Assistant® (EMA™), a cloud-based, specialty-specific electronic health record (EHR) system, will showcase its new products, cognitive computing clinical decision support and readiness for the future of quality of care to the healthcare technology community at booth 4975 at the 2015 HIMSS Annual Conference.
Having developed its flagship product from the ground up as a cloud EHR system for mobile technology, Modernizing Medicine continued expanding mobile capabilities since last year’s event with the introduction of PocketEMA™, the smartphone version of EMA that gives providers even more convenience and access to patient information while on the go.
Additionally, the telemedicine application debuting at HIMSS2015 enables medical advice for remote patients using mobile devices while potentially decreasing their medical treatment waiting time. This also gives physicians the added benefit of consulting with a patient from nearly anywhere at the time that works best in the doctor’s daily schedule. Modernizing Medicine will also be discussing its mini mobile capabilities, targeted for a debut after the Apple Watch becomes available later this month.
“Cloud, mobile and data are central to the third generation EHR system,” said Modernizing Medicine’s CEO Dan Cane. “They need to be the focus for healthcare technology vendors in order to meet existing and future demands in the changing healthcare landscape, especially as we move to address the bigger issues of interoperability and outcomes in population health. The structured data in EMA has enabled us to get ahead on outcomes, meet the future requirements for quality of care reporting and ICD-10.”
With all systems still a go for the transition to ICD-10 on October 1, 2015, Modernizing Medicine will highlight its patent-pending solution for ICD-10 that was developed ahead of schedule last year before legislation delayed ICD-10 implementation. The structured data of EMA enables bypassing more commonly used approaches such as General Equivalence Mappings (GEMs) and translation tools that could slow down coding with the increase to over 140,000 new codes that don’t have 1:1 translations.
“The best way to understand the difference and importance of structured data in our ICD-10 coding is to see it in action and to put it to the time test against other solutions,” said Cane. “The automatic point-of-care coding removes the guess work, increases accuracy and helps doctors get paid for the work they perform.”
In January 2015, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) made announcements regarding the increased move from fee-for-service healthcare models in favor of outcome-based reimbursements, with the CMS stating that up to 85 percent of Medicare payments in 2016 could be based on quality of care. Modernizing Medicine has already addressed the potential elevated value-based mandates due to the structured-data technology of EMA, which is critical in the third generation platform.
“It is certainly an exciting time to be in healthcare, but it can also be a confusing and challenging time for providers as they try to comprehend regulations and meet constantly changing legislation, particularly around quality of care. Our aim is to alleviate that burden and give providers the freedom to stay focused on treating their patients. We are happy that we can give physicians who use EMA peace of mind amidst the changes ahead.”
Last year, Modernizing Medicine also became one of the first healthcare companies to be included in the IBM Watson Ecosystem to leverage the power of cognitive computing. Through schEMA, the company’s powered by Watson app only available in EMA, physicians can get information at the point of care to enhance the practice of evidence-based medicine. It’s the only application of its kind in a third platform EHR system.
Modernizing Medicine also attends HIMSS2015 with a more comprehensive, specialty-specific suite that includes billing, revenue cycle management and inventory management, taking the company beyond EHR to meet needs across the practice.
EMA, which easily functions as the chief solution for specialty-physicians or the front end interface for enterprise systems, has previously been recognized as a top EHR system, most recently by receiving the #1 ranking on Black Book Market Research’s top EHR list in the dermatology space. At last year’s HIMSS conference, Modernizing Medicine also received recognition for adopting the EHR Association Developer Code of Conduct, which focuses on general business practices, patient safety, interoperability and data portability, clinical and billing documentation, privacy and security and patient engagement.
HIMSS15 will be held at McCormick Place in Chicago, IL, from Sunday, April 12 through Thursday, April 16, 2015. For more information about HIMSS15, please visit the conference website here.
