Modernizing Medicine’s Chief Financial Officer, Karen O’Byrne, Named One of South Florida Business Journal’s Most Influential Business Women

Boca Raton, FL – July 26, 2013 – Modernizing Medicine, Inc.’s Chief Financial Officer,Karen O’Byrne, has been named one of South Florida Business Journal’s Most Influential Business Women in 2013.

The award recognizes 25 top businesswomen in South Florida who demonstrate strong leadership, exceptional innovation within their industry, and meaningful community involvement. This tremendous achievement follows on the heels of Modernizing Medicine®’s other recent South Florida Business Journal award wins, including “40 Under 40” in 2012 and 2013 for co-founders Dan Cane and Michael Sherling and “Fastest Growing Company in South Florida” in 2012 and 2013.

Since joining Modernizing Medicine in 2011, O’Byrne has been instrumental in helping the now well-established start-up achieve significant growth milestones. Credited for implementing foundational accounting and revenue recognition policies, O’Byrne also introduced employee affiliate programs aimed at optimizing employee satisfaction, increasing recruitment efforts and minimizing turnover.

O’Byrne is involved in all aspects of corporate strategy and company operations at Modernizing Medicine. This year, Modernizing Medicine, with over 130 employees and more than $20 million in contracts, was named the #1 fastest growing company in South Florida and the Business of the Year by the South Florida Business Journal – both made possible with O’Byrne’s leadership contributions. The Company’s specialty-specific electronic medical record (EMR) system EMA™, was named the #1 tablet EHR (electronic health record) by third-party software reviewer Software Advice in 2013.

“A good CFO can create and maintain a set of corporate financial data, but a great CFO will understand the levers that control them,” said Modernizing Medicine’s CEO Dan Cane. “A good CFO will be able to give you sound operational advice on how to scale your business, but a great CFO will build out your foundations and support you in advance of your scale. A good CFO is a confident, accurate and efficient numbers person, but an outstanding CFO is a trusted partner, leader and inspiration to a company and all of its stakeholders. We don’t have a good CFO. We have an outstanding one.”

O’Byrne is also actively involved in the South Florida community, serving as director and treasurer for Daniella’s Journey, Inc. as well as serving on the Development Committee for Jack and Jill Children’s Center and the Audit Committee for St. Andrews School.  She formerly served as a director and treasurer for the South Florida affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure and regularly engages in various other community volunteer efforts throughout South Florida.
