Modernizing Medicine Wins Later-Stage Competition at eMerge Americas Techweek

Company Donates $100,000 Prize to Fuel Regional Entrepreneurial Engines

Boca Raton, Florida – May 9, 2014 – Modernizing Medicine, Inc., creator of the Electronic Medical Assistant® (EMA™), a cloud-based, specialty-specific electronic medical record (EMR) system, announced today that it won the later-stage first annual eMerge Techweek Launch Competition. The company, selected as the best late-stage company at eMerge Americas Techweek in Miami, was awarded cash and in-kind services valued at $100,000.

In CEO Daniel Cane’s acceptance speech, he announced a plan to use the award winnings to help other start-up companies and entrepreneurs in South Florida. Founded in 2010 and already experiencing rapid growth, Modernizing Medicine wants to give early-stage companies a leg up and help fuel the development of more technology companies in the region.

“We are thrilled and honored to receive this award and appreciate eMerge Americas giving us the opportunity to not only share the story of what we do at Modernizing Medicine, but also to give back to the community where we are so firmly rooted,” said Cane. “We believe that South Florida’s entrepreneurs are capable of great success that will further the region’s growth, and we’re proud to be able to help support their journeys.”

Organizations selected to receive the winnings from Modernizing Medicine include Boca Raton’s Florida Atlantic University’s (FAU) Tech Runway, the C. Scott Ellington Technology Business Incubator at the Research Park at Florida Atlantic University, Venture Hive Miami and Florida International University. “These organizations already have programs in place to help foster start-ups and propel the growth of technology in the region,” said Cane.

Entrepreneurs and experts from a variety of sectors in the technology space traveled to Miami for eMerge Americas Techweek, which was held from May 2 – 6. The location was of particular importance as Miami has long been recognized as an entry point for American businesses to expand into Latin America and vice versa. The organization hoped that holding the event in Miami would promote awareness of the city’s increasingly significant position in the technology community.
