Company also Features Physician Mobility Enhancements with Apple Watch Integration and PocketEMATM, Customized Workflow
Boca Raton, Florida – November 13, 2015 – Modernizing Medicine, Inc., the creator of the Electronic Medical Assistant® (EMA™), a cloud-based, specialty-specific electronic medical record (EMR) system, will unveil the latest enhancements of EMA Ophthalmology® at this year’s American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO). Highly visual and touch-based, EMA Ophthalmology is built with deep medical knowledge specific to ophthalmology and the field’s subspecialties.
During AAO, Modernizing Medicine will showcase the latest physician-led advancements in EMA Ophthalmology, including:
- Automated ICD-10 platform. Advanced functionality helps practices seamlessly incorporate the multitude of new codes made effective in October 2015. EMA Ophthalmology’s structured data collection combined with the user-friendly, touch-and-type iPad interface facilitates generating ICD-10 codes along with exam notes and populates the super bill. No crosswalks, General Equivalence Mappings (GEMs) or translation tools needed.
- Advanced PQRS reporting capabilities. EMA Ophthalmology’s collection of structured data makes it simpler for physicians to document and keep track of their patients’ progress, creating a smoother transition to quality-of-care reporting and outcome-based reimbursements. EMA is capable of supporting eligible providers and hospitals with meeting the Stage 1 and Stage 2 Meaningful Use measures required to qualify for funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).* Additionally, Modernizing Medicine is one of the first EMR system vendors to achieve ONC HIT 2014 Edition Modular Certification for a mobile device, offering the first ambulatory EHR system certified as a base modular application for the iPad.
- Enhanced mobility using Apple Watch technology to provide busy physicians with improved notification services. Through the convenience of their Apple Watch, physicians will be able to receive push notifications, adjust or schedule appointments and view patient notes during clinic hours. This is all done through PocketEMA, a native Android and iOS application which provides physicians smartphone access to a patient’s chart and past notes, review of allergies and current medications, plus the ability to view additional documents like imaging reports.
- Customized workflow with new Protocols. Physicians can develop their own master visits and customize their workflow. With only two clicks a physician can pull the master visit into the current visit to quickly document while seeing a patient.
“We’re proud that our practicing physicians worked with the rest of the team to create such a robust EMR system built to help ophthalmologists improve office efficiencies and patient care,” said Daniel Cane, CEO and co-founder of Modernizing Medicine. “EMA Ophthalmology enables users to code with confidence while giving them mobile tools to support their active lifestyles – both at the office and after hours.”
The company is also celebrating its relationship with Eyemaginations, Inc., a leader in visual patient education. Using EMA Ophthalmology and Eyemaginations’ interactive Echo system, users can make visits more informative for patients and efficient for physicians by utilizing the power of visuals. Echo features 3D-animated videos that are perfect for chair-side explanation. Doctors can draw on the screen to highlight important elements of the anatomy and to reinforce their message, promoting physician-patient dialogue and patient knowledge.
In addition to being easily accessible through a desktop computer, EMA Ophthalmology is available as a native iPad application and can be accessed via the Internet virtually anywhere and anytime, giving providers the freedom they need to efficiently run their practices.
“EMA Ophthalmology has the benefit that it was designed and coded by ophthalmologists and it shows in the quality of data that is in the system,” said Dr. Donald Abrams, Chairman of Ophthalmology at the LifeBridge Health Krieger Eye Institute. “Its intuitive workflow and adaptive learning algorithms remember individual physician preferences and diagnostics, allowing us to complete documentation and prescription processes in real time. EMA Ophthalmology has helped prompt us to enter the data necessary to achieve proper coding and the transition to ICD-10 has been effortless.”
Steven Rosenfeld, MD, FACS, Chair of Ophthalmology; Paul Gallogly, MD, EMA Ophthalmology Team Lead, Posterior Segment; David A. Goldman, MD, EMA Ophthalmology Team Lead, Anterior Segment; and other members of the EMA Ophthalmology team will showcase EMA Ophthalmology at booth #4610 from November 14 – 17, 2015 at the Sands Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada.
