Dr. Neda Shamie of Advanced Vision Care to Present on ModMed Ophthalmology™ at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) Annual Meeting 2017

Black Book Ranks Modernizing Medicine, EMA™ the #1 Ophthalmology EHR System

Boca Raton, Fla. – May 5, 2017 – Ophthalmology-specific health information technology leader, Modernizing Medicine, Inc., today announced that Neda Shamie, M.D. of Advanced Vision Care, a private ophthalmology practice in Los Angeles, Calif., will present on May 6 at the EMR Industry Spotlight Theater as part of the 2017 American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) Annual Meeting. Dr. Shamie’s presentation will educate attendees about leveraging technology to improve clinical, financial and operational outcomes in ophthalmology practices, specifically using the ModMed Ophthalmology suite, including the electronic health record (EHR) system, EMA™.

Dr. Shamie is an ophthalmologist specializing in corneal, cataract and refractive surgery with nearly two decades of practice experience. She is recognized as an expert in advanced corneal transplantation and frequently lectures nationally and internationally and leads courses teaching fellow surgeons. Dr. Shamie is also an active member of numerous ophthalmic societies, has served on the Cornea Clinical Committee of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and was the President of the Los Angeles Society of Ophthalmology. Dr. Shamie has published in peer reviewed journals, written book chapters and has been voted by her peers to be among America’s Top Doctors.

While four ophthalmologists at Advanced Vision Care use the ModMed Ophthalmology suite, each has their own favorite benefits. Dr. Shamie believes that “the ability to access EMA from multiple devices and modify the note simultaneously with another user is incredible and has helped greatly with our efficiency,” as she discusses her practices’ operational success.

“The four doctors in our practice each responded to different aspects of EMA. Ultimately EMA stood out because its adaptive learning responds to each individual user’s practice patterns, and the automation of structured data within the system allows it to code in the most efficient and optimized fashion,” said Dr. Shamie. “In addition, the content is built by renowned and highly experienced ophthalmologists who use it in their practices. We all saw EMA as an effective tool that would help improve clinical, financial and operational outcomes.”

During her presentation “ModMed Ophthalmology and EMA EHR: Improve Clinical, Financial and Operational Outcomes,” Dr. Shamie will explain what Modernizing Medicine currently offers and what the company is developing to meet future data collection requirement; how the system differs from others on the market and what makes the system unique; what solutions will minimize data entry time for physicians and ancillary staff; and how a practice can make the system financially viable.

Most recently Modernizing Medicine’s ophthalmology EHR system has earned the #1 ranking in ophthalmology by Black Book Rankings™. Black Book captures the opinions and perceptions of thousands of healthcare leaders and systems users annually. Ballot results are collected on 18 performance areas of operational excellence to rank vendors by software, systems, products, equipment and outsourced service lines.

Modernizing Medicine is a leader in ophthalmology-specific solutions, providing what eye care providers need to succeed: EHR, Practice Management, RCM, Analytics and more. Built by practicing ophthalmologists, the cloud-based suite was developed to save physicians time by leveraging touch not typing, adapting to preferences and automating billing and other processes in real-time.

In addition, earlier this year, Modernizing Medicine announced that EMA is among the first in the United States to include built-in MIPS intelligence, including composite score reporting, robust analytics and benchmarking reports that document provider performance in near real-time. The automated solution is currently available and was designed to help clients exceed the minimum threshold or achieve exceptional performance for an upward adjustment with MIPS in 2017.

Dr. Shamie will present on Saturday, May 6, 2017, 11:15 – 11:30am on the exhibit level, exhibit hall in the Industry Spotlight Theater at the L.A. Convention Center in Los Angeles, Calif. For more information about this year’s conference, please visit annualmeeting.ascrs.org.
